Intern Spotlight: Xavier Latimer’s Journey with Kaeme
Intern Spotlight: Xavier Latimer’s Journey with Kaeme

At Kaeme, we welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds who bring exceptional perspectives and enthusiasm to our mission. This quarter, we had the pleasure of hosting Xavier Latimer, a senior from New York City, as an intern. From embracing new cultural experiences to gaining hands-on business knowledge, Xavier’s time with us has been filled with learning and adventure. Here’s a glimpse into his journey at Kaeme.
Tell us about yourself, Xavier.
My name is Xavier Latimer. I am from New York City. At school, I serve as the President of the Diversity Club, captain of the Varsity Basketball team, and a volunteer English and Math tutor for young children. In my free time, I enjoy reading books about global events and going for bike rides in the park.
What made you join Kaeme, and how has your experience been?
I attend a Jesuit school, where a core principle is service for the greater good. At Regis, seniors dedicate their final three months to community service or internships instead of academic classes. I wanted to fulfill this requirement internationally, combining my love for travel and cultural immersion with meaningful work.
My father shared my aspirations with a friend who connected me with Kaeme. In my initial conversation with Ms. Freda, the founder and Chief Mixer, I was captivated by Kaeme’s vision: a female-owned, environmentally conscious brand empowering rural Ghanaian communities. The idea of transforming local raw materials into luxury skincare products resonated deeply with me.
So far, my experience has been nothing short of amazing. On my first day, I didn’t bring lunch but was warmly invited by a colleague who treated me to my first-ever Waakye. Since then, I’ve been involved in sales, product labeling, and content creation. Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to visit a new partner community outside Accra, where Kaeme is involved in training women in raw black soap production. Beyond work, I’ve explored tourist sites and local restaurants recommended by my colleagues, making this journey even more memorable.
What’s the most exciting thing about working at Kaeme?
Every day at Kaeme is a new learning opportunity. I’ve not only deepened my understanding of the brand and its beautifully scented products but also gained insights into the inner workings of running a small yet globally recognized business. I’ve contributed to the company’s accounting, applying skills from my recent coursework in accounting, and conducted market research to help expand Kaeme’s social media presence and North American sales.
It’s difficult to pick just one exciting experience because every day brings a new adventure. Whether I’m assisting a customer, brainstorming content marketing strategies, or observing the meticulous craftsmanship behind Kaeme’s products, I feel fortunate to be part of such a dynamic environment.
What lessons will you take away from your experience?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the value of teamwork in a small business. Kaeme is in the process of opening a new green factory, and while it’s an exciting milestone, the transition has created a temporary space crunch. Despite this, when there’s a rush of customers, everyone—from marketing to logistics—steps in to help, all while sharing jokes and words of wisdom.
Another key takeaway is the importance of taking care of employees. During my time here, I heard stories about Kaeme supporting its team members in unique ways—whether by sponsoring a driving license for one employee or providing international travel opportunities for another. Seeing a business prioritise its employees’ well-being while still maintaining profitability is a lesson that I, and many companies, can learn from.
Tell us two truths and a lie.
- I am the eldest child.
- I like cats more than dogs.
- I play basketball.
(Guess the lie!)
